On June 22, 2018, Apple provided a global free maintenance service program for MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops for the keyboard failures. Previously, many users had feedback about the flaws in the design of MacBook and MacBook Pro butterfly keyboards, and this was Apple’s first positive response to this complaint.
According to Apple’s official announcement, Apple has determined that on some MacBook and MacBook Pro models, there may be a small portion of the keyboard that may have one or more of the following conditions: accidental repetition of letters or characters, missing letters or characters, and perceived sticky keys or the key feedback is inconsistent.
Apple stated that Apple’s official or officially authorized service providers can provide free services for eligible MacBook and MacBook Pro keyboards, which may involve the replacement of one or more keys or the entire keyboard.
The following is a list of laptops officially listed by Apple as meeting the conditions of the service plan:
– MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)
– MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016)
– MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017)
– MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
– MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
– MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
– MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
– MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
– MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
As you can see, these laptop models include all models with a butterfly keyboard, and other Mac laptop models are not covered by this plan.
